PostOp – Mission #1

Music. Bands. Gigs. Possibly more Music?

We never sing the news

So I was lying in bed, trying to find the motivation to wake up. I didn’t have too be anywhere for another 2 hours, or anything particually important that I had to do. So I put on some music. It’s better then morning telelvision in Australia. I began thinking about Mission #1 and then the all wise words of Horsell Common spoke to me. “We can make the edges smooth, when we sing the news, we’ll sing the news”. Here at Mission #1, so far we haven’t sung the news. Well now we are.

The Plan Tour

Australia’s latest hit, The Getaway Plan will be the main supports for Simple Plan’s upcoming Australian tour. The tour hits the east coast + Perth in October.

Deez Nuts

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that JJ Peters is releasing Deez Nut’s debut album Stay True in October. Finally we have a date, October 4th. Their on tour now, hitting most venues with Confession, who are also expecting to release an album in the coming months.

Severing Ties

I can see people spending a lot of money come October 4th, with both Deez Nuts and The Amity Affliction releasing albums. Amity are on tour throughout most centres during September-November.

Now we sing.

Closure in America

Hello, my name is lenny and I’m going to be writing about upcoming bands because, well, I can. And this week I’m going to be going on (and on, and on, because I love these boys) about a little band called Closure in Moscow. Have you heard of them? They’re the ones who are currently on tour with another band you may have heard of, The Getaway Plan. The ones whose debut albumette, The Penance and the Patience, debuted at 13 on the AIR (Australian Independent Release) chart. The band who reportedly sold their cars to record that very release at prestigious Melbourne studios Sing Sing with American producer Kris Crummett (Drop Dead, Gorgeous, The Devil Wears Prada, Dance Gavin Dance).Yeah, you’ve heard of them.

Well, the reason that I’ve chosen to write about them at the moment is that they recently announced their signing to American label Science Records (home of Bless the Fall, Beat Union and more). According to their myspace, the band will be heading over to Orange County, California later in the year; with plans to record an album in late 2008-early 2009. The band has promised Australian fans that they will return home after the record in complete, and also have given American fans something to look forward to in announcing their intent to do some touring while in America. A statement from Science reads:

“We’re extremely happy and excited to have Closure In Moscow join the Science Records family. Taking on an international artist is a big task, but after seeing and getting to know them we are very confident about their music and their dedication as artists. They present a refreshing musical sound and we’re excited to bring them to the U.S.”

Judging by the response on the bands’ myspace, most fans are happy that Closure have achieved this much recognition for all of their hard work in their two short years as a band – and I have to agree. With the ever-growing popularity of online music promotion and distribution, as well as the rise of social networking sites, it is getting harder and harder for upcoming bands to get noticed.

But America has a funny way of changing Australian bands, so make sure you catch Closure in action before they head off – if not, you’ll be missing something special.
